In anticipation of the adverse effects of the March 13-14 winter storm, and in conjunction with the State of Pennsylvania’s Governor signing a Proclamation of Disaster Emergency and neighboring municipalities taking similar actions, Newtown Township had made a Declaration of Disaster Emergency. This authorizes Township staff to take all appropriate action necessary to address the circumstances surrounding the emergency.
Although Public Works staff, Police Officers and First Responders will be working throughout the day on Tuesday, the Municipal Offices and Public Library will be closed. Both are anticipated to re-open on Wednesday, March 15th.
In the event of any emergency, or to contact the police department, fire department or ambulance, please call 911
Vehicles should not be on the road on Tuesday unless absolutely necessary.
Please also avoid parking on the streets until Public Works staff have completed plowing curb-to-curb. Travel lanes will be plowed throughout the storm, and curb-to-curb plowing will begin following the end of the snowfall. See previous post for more information. It is recommended that residents wait to plow the ends of their driveways and sidewalks until this has been completed. When you do clear driveways and sidewalks, do not throw snow back into the street.
Staff are working hard to clear roads – understand that it takes hours following the end of snowfall to complete the necessary work. We thank you for your assistance, cooperation and patience during this time.
